This page features works by Joe Reed (1916-1963). Joe
could not decide how
to best define himself, as an Impressionist, as
an Expressionist or perhaps both.
Reed was his harshest critic. Most of these paintings
have not been seen in
public, and those that were, have been hidden for forty
years or more.
What was important to this artist at the time, as well
as his mentor John Sloan,
was how did the painting feel, did it express what one
wanted, and did others
enjoy the feel of the work.
